Four Ways to Get Involved with the Open Mobility Foundation

The Open Mobility Foundation is the trusted organization where cities and industry come together to co-create the data standards and relationships that facilitate digital-savvy approaches to regulation, scalable deployment of new mobility services, and the management of public space for the public good.  Our uniquely open and transparent model offers meaningful ways to engage in our work with varying degrees of engagement and investment.

1. Explore

Learn about digital infrastructure and stay informed.

  • We share organizational news, highlight use-cases as well as updates to MDS and CDS in our monthly newsletter.
  • We celebrate our industry wins and individual contributions on our LinkedIn page.
  • We use our blog to more deeply dive into real-world challenges and how using our digital infrastructure tools, MDS and CDS, help cities and industry work better together.

2. Engage

Join the conversation.

  • Our MDS and Curb Working Groups are open to anyone to attend and participate. The monthly Working Group meetings focus on continuously improving and updating MDS and CDS for real-world use in cities and industry.  And you can catch up on the work that has already been done on the MDS Working Group or Curb Working Group GitHub pages.
  • Similarly, we invite anyone to suggest changes to MDS and CDS on their respective GitHub pages.  We use GitHub to document the entire development process of MDS and CDS in an open-source manner that ensures transparency and fosters collaboration.
  • We share opportunities to engage with our organization on our public Calendar.  While some opportunities may be limited to OMF members or a select group (like Working Group Steering Committee meetings or Board meetings), we always share how the OMF is convening the community and showing up at events around the world.

3. Invest

Become an OMF Member.

  • Simply return the application and you’ll be in good company with like-minded organizations and agencies from around the world.
  • Access to our OMF Academy professional development and educational programming.  Check out upcoming sessions on our calendar.
  • Join the MDS and Curb Working Group Steering Committees – Each working group is led by a steering committee of representatives from public and private sector OMF members. These groups shape our work by facilitating discussions, driving consensus, and evaluating release candidates to send to OMF’s Technology Council and Board of Directors.
  • OMF members receive tickets to attend the OMF Summit at CoMotion LA and opportunities to join peer learning programs like the Smart Curb Collaborative.
  • Network with other OMF members at virtual & in-person events.  Use our calendar to find upcoming dates for OMF Member Socials and Open Mobility Mixers.
  • Your investment in the OMF supports our collective work in shaping the future of digital infrastructure. Over the past several years, we’ve brought our community together to create shared understanding and value around digital infrastructure by  testing new approaches for curb management through the SMART Curb Collaborative, developing ways to communicate emergency response zones to for-hire autonomous vehicles, and exploring the governance challenges that come with an increasingly connected transportation system.

4. Shape

Further step up your engagement to help steward the future.

  • We invite public sector transportation executives from OMF member agencies to join our Board of Directors. Elections happen each spring.
  • We offer Premier Membership to Commercial Members, which unlocks additional visibility, support and leadership opportunities like our Technology Council and Co-Chair roles on our Working Group Steering Committees.
  • Technology Council offers digital infrastructure professionals a leadership opportunity to help shape the architectural landscape of MDS and CDS.  This opportunity is open to any Public Member and Premier Commercial Members.
  • We regularly offer program sponsorship and partnership opportunities that can customize your engagement and help your organization show up where you want to be noticed the most.

Take the Next Step

At the Open Mobility Foundation, participation and engagement is key to advancing urban mobility solutions. Whether you follow us, join a working group, or become a member, there’s a way for everyone to contribute.
